Little Seeds Lie Fast Asleep
I have been studying Anatomy this Summer at BYU-Provo. I have had the opportunity to learn the complex structures of our bodies.
Isn't that beautiful? The whole article really is worth reading.
Something that I have been thinking a lot about is how God is in everything. Just by the fact that He created our bodies he is in each of us. Along with that, we are his literal Children so we have inherited his divine nature. How beautiful is this truth?? With God's physical fingerprint and spiritual nature our eternal destiny becomes a reality. A wise teacher taught it to me like this. We are like a seed. Everything we need is inside of us. If we are nourished with the right things we can grow into what we were meant to be. I believe the "right things" are truth and the most important truth being the reality of Jesus Christ and his Atonement.
There is a God in heaven. He is literally our Father. He loves us and created our bodies specifically for us and trusts us to take care of them. He gave a Word of Wisdom to help us take care of these precious gifts and in return of our obedience we are promised health and strength. My favorite part of the Word of Wisdom is that we are blessed to "find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge; even hidden treasures..." I love that this blessing has nothing to do with our "image." To me it is just another witness that being healthy and taking care of our bodies is directly connected to our spiritual well-being. We were not given these amazing bodies just to dress them up in the latest trends or get others to notice us by them. They were given to us so that we could experience in the most real way all the emotions of life. I LOVE how Elder Bednar says it:
"Our physical bodies make possible a breadth, depth, and intensity of experience that simply could not be obtained in our pre-mortal state. As President Boyd K. Packer has taught, "Our physical body is the instrument of our Spirit." Thus, our relationships with other people, our capacity to recognize and respond to truth, and our ability to obey the principles and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ are amplified through our physical bodies." In one week I am running the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon for the 3rd time. Each year at this time I am so thankful for the people in my life who encouraged and supported me in this goal. It started me on a path that has led me to truths that are really the foundation of my life. Most of all I am grateful to my elder Brother, my savior, redeemer, and my strength for giving me the opportunity to grow in his grace.
So. All those who are trying to be healthy keep trying!! You have it in you to succeed! God will bless your efforts!
Magnificent Joan! Thumbs up for the amazing bodies we are given.
