Be Your Best Friend
This morning I was thinking about how my lack of exercise has been driving me crazy. How is it that I could know the importance of staying healthy and not act on that knowledge?
A thought came to me with great force after these series of thoughts.
"Be your best friend."
I believe that God speaks to me through my thoughts and teaches me through means by which I will understand.
After this thought flashed through my head the song lyrics from Love Like Crazy. "Be your best friend. Tell the truth. Overuse I love you. Go to work. Do your best. Don't outsmart your commonsense. Never let your praying knees get lazy and love like crazy!" Yes, this is just a country song, but this is why I love country music so much. What great advice!
What does being your best friend mean? That was my next thought. For a minute I really imagined myself as my own best friend and I realized being motivated to stay healthy and exercise would be pretty easy and enjoyable if I was my own best friend.
I realized I would be so much more encouraging, kind, and energetic if I was my own best friend cheering me on in my healthy pursuits.
A couple of weeks ago, at church, we were discussing the two great commandments.
1. Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
2.Love thy neighbor as thyself.
It was brought up that the second great commandment is really a two in one. What good would it do to love others as ourselves if we didn't love ourselves?
I connected this with the thought to be my own best friend. I know that my best friend would want me to exercise and take care of myself so why wouldn't I want that for myself?
So I invite you to join me in efforts to become our own best friends and biggest cheerleaders in our exercise pursuits and all aspects of our lives.
